Crimea between Russia and Ukraine

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematickým postavením Krymského poloostrova mezi Ruskou federací a Ukrajinou a vývojem trojúhelníkového vztahu mezi Krymem, Ruskem a Ukrajinou. Krym byl kvůli své strategické poloze objektem zájmu mnoha velmocí, které o něj vedly krvavé boje. Poloostrov byl tak součástí mnoha říší, od krymských Tatarů, přes Osmanskou říši, carské a následně sovětské Rusko až po nezávislou Ukrajinu a proto je jeho dnešní etnická struktura velmi nestabilní. V současnosti se Krym opět dostal do područí Ruské federace, která jej anektovala na počátku minulého roku. Vývoj tohoto trojúhelníkového vztahu je analyzován ve dvou liniích. První linie se zabývá vztahem Ruské federace vůči Krymu a Ukrajině. Analýza této linie je založena geopolitickém základu. Druhá linie se pak zabývá vnitrostátním vztahem mezi ukrajinskou vládou a Autonomní republikou Krym. Tato linie je založena na analýze ukrajinského regionalismu a krymského separatismu. Analýza linií je zaměřena na období od rozpadu Sovětského svazu až po anexi Krymu Ruskou federací. Autor si v práci položil několik výzkumných otázek. První otázka se týká, proč je Krym pro Ruskou federaci tak důležitý, že jej musela anektovat. Dále se autor zabývá otázkou, proč došlo k anexi Krymu v roce 2014 a ne dříve. Nakonec se autor věnuje tomu, jak Vladimír Putin samotnou anexi obhajoval.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the problematic situation of the Crimean peninsula between the Russian Federation and Ukraine and with the evolution of triangular relationship between Crimea, Russia and Ukraine. Due to its strategic position, the Crimea was an object of interest of many superpowers, which have kept fighting for the Crimean territory. That is the reason why the peninsula was the part of many empires, from the Crimean Tatars, over the Ottoman Empire, Tsarist and Soviet Russia to independent Ukraine. Therefore its present ethnic structure is very unstable. Currently, Crimea is again under rule of Russian Federation, which has annexed it last year. The evolution of this triangular relationship is analyzed in two ways. First way deals with relations of Russian Federation and Crimea. Analysis of this way is based on geopolitics. Second way deals with inner relation between Ukrainian government and Autonomous republic of Crimea. This is based is based on analysis of Ukrainian regionalism and Crimean separatism. The analysis of these ways is focused on the period of dissolution of the Soviet Union far to the annexation of Crimea by Russian Federation. There are a several research questions to be answered. First question concerns why the Crimea is so important to the Russian Federation that the Russian Federation had to annex it. The author also addresses the question of why the annexation of the Crimea has happened at 2014 and not before. Finally, the author examines how Vladimir Putin advocated the annexation.
