Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na židovskou menšinu ve Velké Británii v třicátých letech 20. století. Začátek problému nastal po anexi Rakouska a po pogromu zvaný Křišťálová noc v roce 1938, což způsobilo nekontrolovatelné migrační vlny uprchlíků prchající z Německa a ostatních států, které byly pod kontrolou Nacistů. Velká část židů si jako útočiště vybralo Velkou Británii pro svůj údajný pozitivní postoj k židům. Bakalářská práce se soustředí na antisemitismus a všeobecné vnímání židovské menšiny v Británii dobovou společností, médii a vládou. Britská vláda se zaměřovala převážně na pozůstatky ekonomické krize a zanedbala tu migrační. Nařízení, která vláda vydala byla nedostačující. Dobročinné organizace samy vybraly peníze pro uprchlíky a zároveň se postaraly o plynulý chod akcí. Kvůli politice appeasementu, média nevěnovala uprchlické krizi mnoho prostoru. Zároveň britští občané viděli v uprchlících konkurenci na trhu práce. Bakalářská práce používá pro výzkum problematiky dobové noviny, dopisy, rádiová vysílání a přepisy ze zasedání Dolní sněmovny.

Abstract:

The focus of the thesis is historical research on the Jewish minority in the United Kingdom in the 1930s. A fundamental problem started after the annexation of Austria and the Kristallnacht pogrom in 1938, which caused uncontrollable waves of refugees leaving Germany and Nazi oppressed states. Many Jews chose the United Kingdom for its alleged welcoming stance for people of the Jewish faith. The thesis aims to find the general perception of British society, media and the Government on Jews and look for antisemitic instances. The Government wanted to deal with the after-effects of the Great Depression and ignored the refugee crisis until it was too late. Their regulations were insufficient. Charitable organisations had to fund and manage the refugees by themselves. Media gave almost no coverage to the problem due to the appeasement policy. Also, British citizens were worried that the refugees would become a competition in the job market. The thesis uses historical materials like newspapers, letters, radio broadcasts or transcriptions from the House of Commons session to look at the matter.
