Modification of the nutrient composition of the diet as a prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus in dogs

Abstract:

Diabetes mellitus 2. typu (T2DM) se stává stále častějším zdravotním problémem u psů, který má negativní dopad na jejich zdraví a kvalitu života. Tato práce se v části literárního přehledu zaměřuje na anatomii trávicího traktu psů, principy trávení a vstřebávání živin nebo endokrinní regulaci glukózy, a dále na úpravu složení živin v potravě jako potenciální preventivní opatření proti tomuto metabolickému onemocnění. Analýza existujících klinických studií poukazuje na významné souvislosti mezi složením stravy a postprandiální odpovědí glukózy a inzulinu, které by potencionálně mohly ovlivnit vznik T2DM u psů. Na základě těchto poznatků je navržena teoretická experimentální část, která umožní analyzovat účinek specifických dietních intervencí na prevenci diabetu u psů, s cílem identifikovat optimální složení živin a jejich poměry, které by mohly snížit riziko vzniku této metabolické poruchy. Takovéto informace by mohly přispět k lepšímu pochopení vztahu mezi výživou a výskytem T2DM u psů a poskytnout základ pro vývoj efektivnějších preventivních strategií v oblasti veterinární medicíny.

Abstract:

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is becoming an increasingly common health problem in dogs, which has a negative impact on their health and quality of life. This paper, in the literature review section, focuses on the anatomy of the canine digestive tract, principles of digestion and nutrient absorption or endocrine glucose regulation, and dietary nutrient composition modification as a potential preventive measure against this metabolic disease. Analysis of existing clinical studies suggests significant associations between dietary composition and postprandial glucose and insulin responses that could potentially influence the development of T2DM in dogs. Based on these findings, a theoretical experimental part is proposed to analyse the effect of specific dietary interventions on the prevention of diabetes in dogs, with the aim of identifying optimal nutrient composition and ratios that could reduce the risk of this metabolic disorder. Such information could contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between nutrition and the occurrence of T2DM in dogs and provide a basis for the development of more effective preventive strategies in veterinary medicine.
