Actor´s creation of character in a graduate production and in professional theater

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce pojednává o problematice tvorby herecké postavy. Protože každý herec vnímá proces tvorby jinak a na roli pracuje specifickým způsobem, zaměřuji se na mnou zvolenou cestu. Jaké herecké techniky používám, s čím jsem měl problémy a jak jsem řešil jednotlivé situace. V této práci se také snažím poodhalit některá pozitiva a úskalí herecké profese, především pak ta, se kterými se může začínající herec setkat při přechodu ze studentského do profesionálního divadla. Rozdíly v práci v těchto dvou prostředích jsou totiž znatelné a nesou s sebou mnohá úskalí. Jedná se zároveň o zlomový moment v životě herce. V diplomové práci jsem vycházel především z vlastních zkušeností, zápisků z hodin a deníku, který jsem si po dobu studia vedl. Studii opírám především o svou absolventskou roli v divadle Disk v inscenaci Punkrock. Dále se zabývám svými prvními většími profesionálními zkušenostmi se souborem Masopust o.p.s., kde jsem nastudoval dvě inscenace, a to Vytrvalý princ a Čupakabra. Následně přecházím ke Klicperovu divadlu, ve kterém jsem působil rok jako host a následně nastoupil do angažmá. Z této zkušenosti jsem vybral dvě nejdůležitější inscenace Richard III. a Romeo a Julie. Tato práce je určena především studentům herectví či čerstvým absolventům, kteří by si, jak doufám, mohli z mých dosavadních zkušeností vzít některé praktické postřehy, které by jim tak mohly pomoci na jejich vlastní herecké cestě.

Abstract:

This Thesis examines the issue of character creation from the actor's point of view. As each actor perceives the process of creation differently and applies his own specific methods, I made the decision to concentrate on my individual approach: Which acting techniques do I use, which problems have I encountered and how have I found solutions to individual situations. I additionally strive to identify certain perks and downsides of the acting profession within the scope of the Thesis, particularly those likely to be encountered by an aspiring actor transitioning from a student theater to a professional troupe. The practical differences of these two environments are substantial and bring along multiple complications while simultaneously presenting a crucial turning point in an actors life. The Thesis primarily draws upon my personal experiences, lesson notes and my diary kept for the duration of my studies. The work is mostly based upon my graduation role in the Disk Theater staging of Punkrock. I further examine my first major professional experiences with the Masopust o.p.s. troupe, having participated on two production, the Steadfast prince (Vytrvalý princ) and Chupacabra. I then move on to Klicpera's Theater in which I had performed as a guest for one year and subsequently have been offered a company membership. From this experience I have chosen the two most important productions: Richard III and Romeo and Juliet. This work is mainly intended for students or fresh graduates of acting studies who could possibly benefit practically from some of my experiences on their own journey through the profession.
