Musher sport and its effect on man

Abstract:

V bakalářské práci je řešena problematika motivace ke sportu a pohybové aktivitě, konkrétně v musherských sportech. Sleduje, jaká je životní spokojenost, a snaží se zjistit stav deprese u lidí, kteří se tomuto sportu věnují. V teoretické části práce jsou rozebrány základní teoretické pojmy, jimiž je nutné problematikou postihnout. Teoretická část je zaměřena na problematiku motivace, teorii sebeurčení, rozebírá terminologii intrinsické a extrinsické motivace. Po představení pojmů psychologických přistupuje k obeznámení s tématem musherských sportů včetně jejich terminologického aparátu. Představeny jsou rovněž typy musherských sportů a plemena psů vhodná k jejich realizaci. Praktická část práce, která vychází z teoretické části, se snaží nalézt odpovědi na čtyři stanovené hypotézy, a zkoumá propojenost duševní pohody aktivních musherů s četností jejich sportovních aktivit. K měření jsou využity standardizované psychologické dotazníky zaměřené na motivaci ke cvičení (dotazník BREQ-3), životní spokojenosti (dotazník SWLS) a stavu deprese (dotazník PHQ-9) V části diskuze jsou v širším kontextu vysvětlovány výsledky realizovaného šetření a vzneseny závěry o platnosti či neplatnosti stanovených hypotéz. Mezi přínosy této práce lze zařadit nutnost komplexního pohledu na problematiku musherských sportů - není vhodné na ně pohlížet jako na klasickou sportovní disciplínu. Je vhodné, až nezbytné zohlednit jejich základní podmínku - psa - a faktory, které vztah člověka a psa do mushingu vnáší. Do jisté míry by bylo vhodné zavedení diskuze, zda není mushing více než sportem spíše životním stylem.

Abstract:

In this bachelor thesis, the topic of motivation to sport and conducting physical activities are discussed, with a particular focus on mushing. The thesis monitors satisfaction with life along with observation of the stress levels of mushers. The theoretical part presents basic terms, which are used to describe this topic. First, it concentrates on the psychological terms of motivation - both intrinsic and extrinsic, and self-determination theory. Second the topic of mushing and its technical terminology is presented, as well as the types of mushing and dog breeds suitable for its execution. The practical part of this thesis strives to find answers to four stated hypotheses. The thesis tests the link between mental well-being and mushing, using the standardised psychological questionnaires, such as BREQ-3, SWLS, and PHQ-9 to evaluate respondents' mental health. The discussion part tries to explain received answers in a wider context, leading to proving/disproving stated hypotheses. We conclude that a more complex view on mushing is needed. Although mushing is often perceived as a classical sports discipline, these data indicate that it might be beneficial to view mushing as a lifestyle (centered around the relationship between the musher and his dog) more than a sport. The qualitative responses support the strong role that the relationship between the musher and the dog plays in motivation to engage in this sport and should be factored into the standard view of mushing.
