Specifics of nursing care for seniors with dementia

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá zkušenostmi všeobecných sester s projevy problémového chování v péči o seniory s demencí. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a praktickou. V jednotlivých kapitolách teoretické části práci je rozebrána problematika syndromu demence u seniorů. Podrobně jsou popsány charakteristiky, diagnostika a léčba onemocnění, specifika ošetřovatelské péče, zásady správné komunikace a také problémové chování u nemocných s demencí, jeho projevy a pravidla efektivního zvládaní. V empirické časti bylo cílem zmapovat a popsat prožité zkušenosti všeobecných sester sociálního zařízení LONGEVITA SENIO s.r.o. s projevy problémového chování u seniorů s demencí v rámcích poskytování ošetřovatelské péče. Praktická část je založena na zpracování kvalitativního výzkumu. Sběr dat byl proveden metodou polostrukturovaného rozhovoru se všeobecnými sestrami sociálního zařízení. Z výzkumu vyplynulo, že poruchy chování u klientů s demencí výrazně ovlivňují ošetřovatelskou péči a mají negativní dopad na psychický a emocionální stav sester. Problémové chování ovlivňuje také přistup a postoj všeobecných sester k nemocným.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the experiences of general nurses dealing with manifestations of problematic behaviour in the care of elderly people with dementia. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and practical part. In the individual chapters of the theoretical part, the problem of dementia syndrome in the elderly is discussed. The characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of the disease, specifics of nursing care, principles of proper communication and also problematic behaviour in patients with dementia, its manifestations and rules of effective management are described in detail. In the empirical part, the aim was to map and write down the lived experiences of general nurses of the social facility LONGEVITA SENIO s.r.o. with the manifestations of problematic behaviour in elderly patients with dementia in the framework of nursing care. The practical part is based on the elaboration of qualitative research. The data collection was carried out using the method of semistructured interview with general nurses of the social facility. The research showed that behavioural disturbances in clients with dementia significantly affect nursing care and have a negative impact on the psychological and emotional state of nurses. Problematic behaviour also affects the approach and attitude of general nurses towards patients.
