Cinematographic topics of Cesare Pavese

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis analyzes the cinematographic topics of the 20th century Italian author Cesare Pavese. The thesis focuses on the spring of 1950, the late period of the author's life. These topics of Pavese were collectively published in 2009 in Il serpente e la colomba. In the thesis one of the topics, Il diavolo sulle colline, is contrasted with the author's novel of the same name. Other topics are individually discussed further in the thesis. The thesis' goal is to find common characteristics in Pavese's cinematographic topics. Particular emphasis is dedicated to the topic of suicide because this is how the author had ended his life in August of 1950's.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá rozborem kinematografických námětů italského spisovatele 20. století Cesare Paveseho, které napsal na jaře roku 1950 na sklonku svého života. Tyto náměty byly souhrně vydány až v roce 2009 v knize Il serpente e la colomba. V práci je prvně porovnán jeden z námětů, Il diavolo sulle colline, se stejnojmenným románem od téhož autora. Poté jsou jednotlivě rozebrány ostatní náměty. Cílem práce je najít společné rysy Paveseho kinematografických námětů. Zvláštní důraz je kladen na téma sebevraždy, jelikož tímto způsobem byl ukončen v srpnu 1950 autorův život.
