Assessing the financial performance of startup: The case study of Facebook and Twitter

Abstract:

Zajímavý fakt, že: 21,5% startupů selže v prvním roce, 30% ve druhém roce, 50% v pátém roce a 70% v 10.roce a 82% úspěšných podnikatelů přiznává, že mají správnou kvalifikaci a zálohované zkušenosti k řízení společnosti, a to i při omezeném peněžním toku. Tato bakalářská práce představuje analýzu finanční situace Facebook a Twitter pomocí finanční analýzy pro počáteční fáze. Teoretická část se zaměří na pochopení struktury start-upů a finančních metrik. Praktická část se bude zabývat nadací a finanční analýzou Facebook a Twitter v raných fázích. Hlavním cílem práce je porozumět složitým metodám financování a zjistit, který podnikatelský plán je stabilnější, jaké aspekty je třeba držet, aby byl úspěšný start-up s ohledem na minimální riziko, s pochopením ekonomické a finanční stránky. Dostupné informace o účetní závěrce společnosti budou shromážděny, analyzovány a porovnány. Na základě vyhodnocení a analýzy získaných informací o jednotlivých otázkách, jejich konfrontaci s teoretickými, dříve známými dokumenty bude účelem této práce navrhnout vhodná opatření ke zlepšení metod implementace problematiky v praxi a poskytnutí doporučení. Během výzkumu jsem zjistil, že Facebook byl zaměřen na budování velké uživatelské základny před implementací různých strategií generujících příjmy, jako je reklama a sponzorovaný obsah. Twitter naproti tomu čelil časným výzvám při zpeněžení své platformy a experimentoval s různými toky příjmů, včetně sponzorovaných tweetů a propagovaných účtů, aby generoval příjmy.

Abstract:

Interesting fact that: 21.5% of start-ups fail in the first year, 30% in the second year, 50% in the fifth year, and 70% in their 10th year, and 82% of successful business owners admit they have the right qualifications and backed up experience to run a company, even with limited cash flow. This bachelor thesis represents the analysis of the financial condition of Facebook and Twitter using financial analysis for the early phases. Theoretical part will consider understanding structure of start-ups and financial metrics. Practical part will consider foundation and financial analysis of Facebook and Twitter in the early phases. The main purpose of the thesis is to understand complex methods of financial and to find out which business plan is more stable, what aspects need stick to have successful start-up considering minimal risk, with understanding economic and finance side of view. The available information on the Company's financial statements will be collected, analysed, and compared. Based on the evaluation and analysis of the information received on individual issues, their confrontation with theoretical, previously known documents, the purpose of this thesis will be to propose appropriate measures to improve the methods of implementation of the issue in practice and the provision of recommendations. During the research I found out that Facebook was focused on building a large user base before implementing various revenue-generating strategies, such as advertising and sponsored content. Twitter, on the other hand, faced early challenges in monetizing its platform and experimented with different revenue streams, including sponsored tweets and promoted accounts, to generate revenue.
