Monopolies and Antitrust Policy on the Example of Microsoft.

Abstract:

Předložená práce řeší problematiku monopolů a antimonopolní politiky v hlubším rozsahu než prezentují základní ekonomické výklady. V úvodu práce autorka charakterizuje monopol a antimonopolní politiku. Následně doplňuje teorii monopolu o vysvětlení přirozeného chování tohoto extrému nedokonalé konkurence na svobodném trhu. Ve zbývající části pak prezentuje výše uvedené na společnosti Microsoft Corporation, která byla v minulosti několikrát napadena žalobami za porušování antimonopolních zákonů a zneužívání svého silného postavení. V závěru práce autorka analyzuje oprávněnost soudních argumentů vznesených proti této společnosti a zamýšlí se nad tím, zda antimonopolní politika resp. zákonodárství, je prostředkem ochrany spotřebitelů, nebo mocenský zásah do postavení konkurentů na přirozeném trhu.

Abstract:

Submitted thesis is dealing with a problem of monopoly and antitrust policy in a wider context than the basic economic interpretations. In the introduction the author defines monopoly and antitrust policies. Subsequently, expanding on the theory of monopoly by adding the explanation of the natural behaviour of the extreme imperfect competition in a free market. In the remainder of the theses, the viability of the above stated theory is demonstrated on a case study of Microsoft Corporation, which , in the past, has faced many lawsuits for violating the antitrust laws and abusing its prodigious market position.In conclusion of the thesis the author is analyzing justification of the accusations against this company and contemplating whether the antitrust policy or more precisely legislation is an instrument for consumer protection, or power In conclusion, the author analyzes the legitimacy of such acusations raised against the company and explores the idea of antitrust policy or laws as a tool to protect consumers or if it is in fact an interference of power with position of competitors on natural market.
