Earthcache as a tool for environmental education

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá edukačním potenciálem tzv. earthcachí a jejich využitím v environmentální výuce. V první části práce je definována environmentální výuka, její cíle a pojetí, ale také překážky, se kterými se lze ve výuce setkat. Důležitou součástí jsou také faktory, které ovlivňují odpovědné pro-environmentální chování. V návaznosti na to jsou rozpracovány kapitoly o moderních technologiích, převážně o GPS technologii, která je nezbytnou součástí outdoorové aktivity – geocachingu, respektive earthcachingu. Po představení této outdoorové aktivity je rozpracováno zhodnocení jejího potenciálu pro environmentální výuku a jsou popsány výzvy s jejím zařazením do výuky. Na základě získaných teoretických poznatků byl vytvořen návrh aktivity ve snaze co nejefektivněji spojit earthcaching a environmentální výuku. Byla tak vytvořena aktivita v podobě terénní exkurze v lokalitě, která byla popsána z pohledu přírodovědného i kulturně-historického. Samotná aktivita je samostatnou skupinovou prací žáků na vytyčeném území založená na principu earthcachingu.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the educational potential of the so-called earthcaches and their use in environmental education. The first part of the thesis defines environmental education, its goals and concepts, but also the obstacles that can be encountered in education. Factors that influence responsible pro-environmental behavior are also an important part. In connection with this, chapters about modern technologies are being developed, mainly on GPS technology, which is a necessary part of outdoor activities - geocaching or earthcaching. After the introduction of this outdoor activity, an evaluation of its potential for environmental teaching is developed and the challenges with its inclusion in teaching are described. Based on the acquired theoretical knowledge, a proposal for the activity was created in an effort to combine earthcaching and environmental teaching as effectively as possible. Thus, an activity was created in the form of a field trip in the locality, which was described from the point of view of science, culture and history. The activity itself is an independent group work of students in the defined area based on the principle of earthcaching.
