Abstract:

Tato práce popisuje novou metodu pro vykreslování sekundárních struktur bílkovin. Při vykreslování využíváme funkci vzdálenosti se znaménkem, kterou získáme tak, že jí modelujeme jako spojení tažených objemů a křivek. V této práci podrobně popisujeme matematické odvození této funkce a výzvy, s kterými se člověk setká při pokusu vizualizovat tuto konkrétní funkci vzdálenosti pomoci techniky sledování paprsku. V závěru práce porovnáváme naši implementaci v rámci aplikace CAVER Analyst se stávající metodou, která vizualizuje sekundární struktury jako trojúhelníkovou sít´. Nakonec popisujeme výkonnostní výzvy naší implementace a navrhujeme případné možnosti, jak tyto výzvy řešit.

Abstract:

This work describes a new rendering method for visualization of a cartoon representation of a protein. We obtain a signed distance field of a cartoon representation by modeling it as a union of swept volumes and curves. In this work, we describe in detail the mathematical derivation of this signed distance function and challenges that a person will encounter while trying to visualize that particular signed distance function via the sphere tracing technique. We compare our implementation in the CAVER Analyst framework with the existing one, which visualizes a cartoon representation as a triangle mesh. Finally, we discuss performance challenges of our sphere tracing approach and propose ideas worth exploring on how to solve these challenges.
