Indian Wars in the American Northwest

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with war conflicts between Americans and Indians, focusing on the period between the 1840s and 1870s. The thesis presents reasons and causes leading to individual wars between white and native population, and describes their consequences. The destiny of the Indian tribes living in the American Northwest is outlined on various examples of the most significant clashes and battles, which had a considerable impact on the course of historical events and the development of the present-day USA. It also shows the influence of the European civilisation after arriving on Indian Territory, and the forced removal of native peoples to reservations.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá válečnými konflikty mezi Američany a Indiány a zaměřuje se převážně na období 40. až 70. let 19. století. Práce prezentuje důvody, které vedly k jednotlivým válkám mezi bílým a nativním obyvatelstvem, a popisuje jejich následky. Osud indiánských kmenů žijících na území amerického severozápadu je znázorněn na příkladech nejvýznamnějších střetů a bitev, které ovlivnily další průběh dějin a měly značný vliv na vývoj dnešních Spojených států. Také je zde nastíněn vliv evropské civilizace po příchodu na území indiánských kmenů, a s tím spojený nucený přesun domorodých obyvatel do rezervací.
