Carpathian Ruthenia as a periphery of Czechoslovakia.

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce bylo pomocí Rokkanovy teorie centrum a periferie rekognoskovat vztahy uvnitř tehdejšího Československa. Dle Rokkanovy teorie centrum a periferie jsem identifikovala čs. centrum a čs. periferii. Jako centrum jsem zvolila Čechy a jako periferie Podkarpatskou Rus. Poté jsem analyzovala vztahy mezi Čechy a Podkarpatskou Rusí, abych vyhodnotila její politické, ekonomické a kulturní postavení v rámci Československa. V kontextu těchto aspektů jsem analyzovala výhodnost či nevýhodnost připojení Podkarpatska k ČSR. Dle teorie centrum a periferie jsem se zaměřila na 3 složky vztahů probíhající mezi nimi. Tyto tři složky obsahují vojensko-administrativní složku vztahů, ve které jsem se zabývala veřejnou správou a vnitřním uspořádáním Podkarpatské Rusi. Druhou složku vztahů tvoří ekonomická otázka, kde jsem se soustředila na hospodářskou situaci tehdejšího Československa a Podkarpatské Rusi. Třetí složku vztahů reprezentuje kulturní aspekt, který obsahuje problematiku rusínského jazyka a školství. Po analýze zjištěných údajů jsem vyhodnotila, že z tohoto spojení profitovaly obě země. Čs. centrum, tedy Čechy, se snažily udržet PR v pozici politické periferie, ale v ekonomické a kulturní oblasti vedly liberální politiku, kdy se centrum snažilo postavení PR zlepšit a alespoň částečně vymanit z periferní pozice.

Abstract:

The main objective of the present thesis was to use Rokkanov?s theory ?center and periphery? to explore relationships within Czechoslovakia. According to Rokkanov?s theory ?center and periphery? I identified Bohemia as Czechoslovakian center and Carpathian Ruthenia as Czechoslovakian periphery. Then I analyzed the relations between Czechs and Carpathian Ruthenia to assess the political, economic and cultural status within Czechoslovakia. In the context of these aspects, I analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of the affiliation of the Carpathian Ruthenia to Czechoslovakia. According to the theory ?center and periphery? I focused on three components of the ongoing relationship between them. These three components include military and administrative relationship in which I focused on public administration and internal arrangement of the Carpathian Ruthenia. The second component are economic issues, in which I focused on the economic situation in Czechoslovakia and Carpathian Ruthenia. The third component represents the cultural aspect, which includes the issue of Ruthenian language and their system of education. After analyzing the collected data, I assessed that the affiliation benefited both countries. Czechoslovakian center - Bohemia, tried to keep Carpathian Ruthenia in a position of political periphery, but in the economic and cultural spheres they led liberal politics, in which the center tried to improve the position of Carpathian Ruthenia and at least partially emancipate from the peripheral position.
