Abstract:

Rigorózní práce se zabývá pomocí Československé republiky hladovějícímu Rusku a Ukrajině v letech 1921–23 a 1932–33. Charakter poskytnuté pomoci se však u obou hladomorů lišil. O prvním z nich, který byl důsledkem občanské války a sucha, hojně referovaly ruské i zahraniční sdělovací prostředky, přičemž bolševický režim sám požádal svět o pomoc. Ten druhý byl vyvolán uměle a sovětský režim ho zamlčoval, takže účinná podpora strádajícím byla téměř nemožná. Zatímco na začátku 20. let patřilo Československo mezi hlavní aktéry a iniciátory mezinárodní pomoci, o dekádu později skončilo veškeré úsilí víceméně ve stádiu příprav a pokusů o záchranu hladovějících.

Abstract:

This doctoral thesis deals with the Czechoslovak Republic’s aid to starving Russia and Ukraine in the years 1921 – 1923 and 1932 – 1933. The nature of the support was different in each of the famines. The first one, which was a result of the Civil war and drought, was widely reported by Russian and foreign media, and the Bolshevik regime itself asked the world for help. The second one was initiated artificially and the Soviet regime concealed it, therefore an effective humanitarian aid was nearly impossible. While Czechoslovakia belonged to the main actors and initiators of the international support at the beginning of 1920s, a decade later all the effort ended at the stage of preparations and attempts to save the starving.
