Diplomová práce popisuje viktoriánský ideál dokonalé ženy, která se měla stát „domácím andělem,“ jak v zemi jeho vzniku, Velké Británii, tak i ve Spojených Státech Amerických, kam se tento ideál rozšířil. Práce srovnává přístup k ženskému ideálu ve dvou populárních románech devatenáctého století. This thesis describes the female ideal of domestic womanhood in the Anglo-American Victorian community. It compares its depiction in two popular nineteenth-century domestic novels. Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre is a representative of British domestic fiction and The Lamplighter, a once famous, but now forgotten novel by Susanna Maria Cummins, stands for its American counterpart.
