Occupational therapy intervention for eldery with Alzheimer´s disease

Abstract:

Úvod: Riziko výskytu Alzheimerovy choroby se se zvyšujícím věkem seniorů rovněž zvyšuje a stává se tak mezi obyvateli stále známější. Cíl: Hlavním cílem bakalářské práce je objasnit problematiku Alzheimerovy choroby a zdůraznit důležitost ergoterapeutické intervence u tohoto onemocnění. Metodika: Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí - teoretickou a praktickou. Teoretická část je započata literární rešerší, následuje popis problematiky stáří a stárnutí, psychických a biologických změn podmíněných stárnutím, formy péče o seniory, klasifikace a poruchy paměti, dále klinické příznaky demencí, jejich prevence, formy, klasifikace a vyšetřovací metody používané u demencí. Následně je charakterizována Alzheimerova choroba, její stádia, příznaky, diagnostika a léčba. Rovněž je zde uvedena obecně ergoterapie, ergoterapeutické cíle, rozdělení a specifika ergoterapie u seniorů. Na závěr je přiložena charakteristika ergoterapie u Alzheimerovy choroby, ergoterapie zaměřena na soběstačnost, rehabilitace kognitivních funkcí, testování a nácvik řečových funkcí a kondiční ergoterapie. Praktická část začíná kazuistikou s kineziologickým rozborem klientky, pokračuje vstupní hodnocením, stanovením krátkodobého a dlouhodobého plánu, popisem jednotlivých intervencí a končí výstupním hodnocením. Výsledky: U klientky byl nejdůležitější trénink kognitivních funkcí, kde došlo, dle výstupního hodnocení, k dosažení lepšího skóre. Dalším cílem byl nácvik grafomotoriky, koordinace pohybů a rozvoj svalové síly. V těchto oblastech nedošlo k výraznému zlepšení. Závěr: Hlavním zjištěním této práce je, že při pravidelné ergoterapeutické intervenci u osob s Alzheimerovou chorobou lze dosáhnout lepších výsledků v oblasti kognitivních funkcí a zajistit tak kvalitnější život klientům a jejich rodinám.

Abstract:

Indroduction: The risk of Alzheimer's disease also increases with the increasing age of the elderly and is becoming more known among the population. Objectives: The main aim of thesis is to clarify the issue of Alzheimer's disease and emphasize the importance of occupational therapy intervention in this disease. Methods: The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part begins with a literary research, then describes the issues of old age and aging, psychological and biological changes accompanied by aging, forms of care for the elderly, classification and memory disorders, the next are clinical symptoms of demen-tia, their prevention, forms, classification and examination methods used in dementia. Alzheimer's disease, its stages, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment are then characterized. There is also mentioned in general occupational therapy, occupatonal´s therapy goals, division and specifics of occupational therapy in seniors. Finally, the characteristics of occupational therapy in Alzheimer's disease, occupational therapy focused on self-sufficiency, rehabilitation of cognitive functions, testing and training of speech functions and fitness occupational therapy are enclosed. The practical part starts with a case study with kinesiological analysis of the client, continues with the initial assessment, setting of short and long term plan, description of individual interventions and ending with the final assessment. Findings: The most important thing for the client was the training of cognitive functions, where, according to the final assesment, a better score was achieved. Another goal was to train graphomotorics, coordinate movements and develop muscle strength. There was no significant improvement in these areas. Conclusion: The main finding of this work is that regular occupational therapy interventions in people with Alzheimer's disease can achieve better results in the area of cognitive functions and thus ensure a better quality of life for clients and their families.
