3D surface reconstruction using Power Crust algorithm

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této práce bylo vyzkoušet algoritmus Power crust pro rekonstrukci povrchu na reálných datech dostupných v Centru analýzy biomedicínského obrazu (CBIA), implementovat jej pomocí knihovny CGAL a srovnat jej s původní implementací autorů. V první části práce je tento algoritmus stručně popsán. Druhá část je věnována požadovanému srovnání. Ukazuje se, že algoritmus je pro rekonstrukci povrchu reálných objektů dobře použitelný. Obě implementace dávají velmi podobné výsledky. Liší se hlavně v rychlosti a orientaci nalezených plošek.

Abstract:

The main goal of this thesis was to test the Power crust algorithm for reconstruction on real data, which are available in the Center for Biomedical Image Analysis (CBIA), to implement the algorithm using the CGAL library and to compare it to the original authors' implementation. The first part of the thesis is brief description of this algorithm. Second part is dedicated to the desired compration. The algorithm proves itself to be well usable for reconstruction of real object surfaces. Both implementations give very similar results. The diferrencies are mainly in computation speed and in the abilities to orient the facets right.
