Sport and physical activities of wheelchair users

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá sportem a pohybovými aktivitami určenými pro osoby, které jsou ze zdravotních důvodů upoutány na invalidní vozík. Práce se zaměřuje zejména na pacienty po úrazu míchy. V teoretické části se věnuje problematice míšních poranění, sportu tělesně handicapovaných - jeho historii a významu a z teoretického hlediska nás seznamuje s vybranými možnostmi sportů a pohybových aktivit, které cílová skupina může využívat. V části praktické se práce věnuje vlivu vybraných sportů a pohybových aktivit na sledované jedince. Praktické šetření probíhá vždy na vícedenní sportovní akci, kde se klienti věnují intenzivně jedné pohybové aktivitě, při níž probíhá měření pomocí testů zaměřených na tepovou frekvenci a dosahy. Dále jsou klienti hodnoceni dvěma dotazníky, z nichž jeden slouží ke sběru anamnestických dat a druhý je standardizovaný dotazník k hodnocení nezávislosti. Testy i dotazníky jsou na konci praktické části vyhodnoceny a přiřazeny k výsledkům jednotlivých hypotéz. Výsledky ukazují, že jednotlivé sporty působí na organismus vozíčkáře po míšní lézi odlišně. Jízda na handbike a vodáctví umožňují dosažení střední zátěžové zóny tepové frekvence u testovaných s míšní lézí pod úrovní Th6, tanec na vozíku toto neumožňuje. Jízda na handbike má vliv na dosahovou vzdálenost některých probandů. V dotazníku SCIM má většina dotázaných lepší skóre než je průměr pro danou míšní lézi dle porovnané studie. Vozíčkáři účastnící se vodácké akce byli více soběstační než účastnící akce taneční. Ukončením praktické části je diskuze, ve které jsou rozebrány jednotlivé hypotézy.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis relates to sports and physical activities for wheelchair users. The thesis is specifically focused on people with spinal cord injury. The theoretical part deals with the matters of spinal cord injury and sport activities of people with physical disability - their history and importance. This part shall introduce to us a few selected possibilities of sports and physical activities available to wheelchair users. The practical part of the thesis deals with effect of selected sports and physical activities on the probands. The practical survey took place at a sports event held for multiple days. The probands intensively engaged in a single physical acitvity during which they were being tested. The tests consisted of heart rate measurement and a modified reach test. The probands were also asked to fill in two questionnaires, one serving to evaluate the proband's independence and the second to collect the proband's medical history. The tests and questionnaires are evaluated at the end of the practical part. The results show that individual sports have different effects on the organism of a wheelchair user who sustained a spinal cord injury. Paddling and handbike riding make it possible for people with spinal injury below the level of Th6 to reach a moderate heart rate zone during the activity. Wheelchair dance does not make this possible. Handbike riding allows some probands to score better on the modified reach test. The results of the SCIM questionaire were compared to the results of a published study and the data show that most of the probands participating in sport activities performed better than an average person with the same level of spine injury who does not participate in such activities. The wheelchair users that participated in the paddling event were more self-sufficient than the wheelchair users who participated in the dancing event.
