Organic box schemes versus organic shopping baskets: characteristics of organics food consumers

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na environmentální souvislosti nakupování biopotravin, a to konkrétně na přímý nákup přes systém bedýnek. V první části se autorka věnuje popisu systému bedýnek a výhodám i nevýhodám, který tento systém přináší všem zainteresovaným subjektům. Nákup bio bedýnek je vztažen k teoretickým konceptům odrážejícím proměny konzumního chování v moderní společnosti a k jejich dopadu na životní styly. Jádrem práce je analýza hloubkových rozhovorů uskutečněných se spotřebiteli, kteří nakupují bedýnky. Za nejvýznamnější zjištění můžeme pokládat nízkou míru reflexe,kterou spotřebitelé v souvislosti s nákupem bedýnky vykazují spojenou s nízkou informovaností o biopotravinách i ekologickém zemědělství. Ukazuje se, že uvědomělý spotřebitel je stále spíše ideálem a i reálný nákup biopotravin podléhá reklamě a módním tlakům na zdravý život. Přesto však nacházíme u bedýnkářů prvky dobrovolné i záměrné skromnosti a určitý stupeň omezení spotřeby.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on environmental connections of buying organic food, concretely on the direct buying by way of box schemes. In the first part of the thesis the author deals with the description of the box schemes and the advantages and disadvantages this system brings to all the interested subjects. Buying organic box scheme is related to theoretical concepts, reflecting changes in consumer behaviour in modern society and its impact on lifestyles. The principal of the thesis is the analysis of depth interviews with the consumers that buy box scheme. The most important finding of the thesis can be considered a low extent of reflexion that the consumers show in connection with the buying of a box scheme, together with low knowledge of organic food and organic agriculture. It proves that a conscious consumer is still rather an ideal and that even a real buying of organic food is subject to advertisement and fashion pressures on healthy lifestyle. However, we find the elements of voluntary simplicity or downshifting in box scheme consumer´s lifestyle.
