Mortuary Practices of Celts in the Period of Celtic Oppida

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je věnovat se problému období LT C2 – D1, ve kterém chybí na území Čech přesvědčivě doložené hroby. Uvedené problematice předchází popis pohřebních zvyklostí v LT A – LT C1 v Čechách. Dále následuje popis situací z našeho území, které by mohly indikovat možné způsoby pohřbívání v posledních dvou stoletích př. Kr. Spolu s tímto soupisem bude uveden i příklad nejbližšího dochovaného pohřebiště z období LT C2 – D1, které se nachází v Německu (Kelheim). Zvláštní pozornost bude věnována druidům a jejich nauce. Prostřednictvím antických písemných pramenů budou porovnány shodné prvky učení druidů, antických filozofických směrů (orfismu a pythagoreismu) a thráckého kultu Zalmoxise. Výsledkem této práce bude nastínění potencionálních pohřebních struktur na základě archeologických nálezů v LT C2 – D1 v Čechách. Ty budou porovnány s pohřebištěm v Kelheimu. V závěru budou možné pohřební praktiky porovnány s filozoficko – náboženským vlivem učení druidů, které mohlo být jednou z příčin změny pohřebních praktik v době oppid.

Abstract:

The aim of this Bachelor Degree Thesis is to focus on problems concerning about era LT C2 – D1, from which there are no convincing attested graves in the Czech republic. To this issue is precluding the list of burial practices in LT A – LT C1 in Bohemia. This is followed by the list of cases from our territory, that might indicate possible ways of burying in last two centuries BC. Along with this list, an example of the closest burial-place from LT C2 – D1 from Germany (Kelheim) is mentioned. Special attention will be paid to druids and to their lore. Through the ancient scripts, the similar features of druids lore, anceint philosofical schools (Orphism, Pythagorism) and features of Thrachis cult of Zalmoxis of will be compared. This work will result in charting the potential burial structures based on archaeological finds from LT C2 – D1 in Bohemia. These will be compared with burial-place from Kelheim. In the end, the possible burial practics will be compared with the philosofical and religious influence of the druids lore, that might be one of the cause of change of the burial practics in the age of Oppida.
