The Influence of Dominant Religious Organisation on the Scope of State Regulation, Market Diversification and Trust in Faith-based Organisations in Post-Communist Countries of Central Europe.

Abstract:

Práce navazuje na probíhající mezinárodní diskuzi v rámci oboru ekonomie náboženství se záměrem odhalit potencionální vliv náboženských organizací na politická rozhodnutí, strukturu trhu náboženských organizací a důvěru věřících. Práce je zaměřena zejména na oblast restriktivní politiky orientované na vládní regulace trhu náboženských organizací. Cílem práce bylo za pomoci panelových dat v podobě indexů, dat z mezinárodních dotazníkových šetření a národních statistických údajů ověřit, zda s rostoucím vlivem jedné denominace roste i rozsah regulace náboženských organizací a zároveň klesá diverzifikace trhu, a zda důvěra věřících v náboženské organizace závisí na velikosti a počtu denominací ve vybraných postkomunistických zemích střední Evropy. Bylo prokázáno, že spolu se zvětšením tržního podílu dominantní denominace poklesne zároveň i diverzifikace trhu. Dále bylo prokázáno, že i důvěra věřících v náboženské organizace závisí na velikosti a počtu denominací ve vybraných postkomunistických zemích střední Evropy. Výsledky práce neprokázaly, že když dojde ke zvětšení tržního podílu dominantní denominace, dojde zároveň k vzrůstu rozsahu regulací náboženských organizací.

Abstract:

The work follows up on the ongoing international discussion in the field of the economics of religion to reveal the potential influence of religious organizations on political decisions, market structure of religious organizations and trust of the believers. This thesis mainly focuses on the area of the restrictive policy converging on the government regulations of the market of religious organizations. The work aims to use panel data in the form of indexes, data from international questionnaire surveys and national statistics to verify whether the growing influence of one of the religious organizations increases the scope of the regulation of the religious organizations and decreases market diversification and whether believers' trust in religious organizations depends on size and number of the religious organizations in selected post-communist countries of Central Europe. It has been shown that, along with an increase in the market share of the dominant denomination, market diversification will also decrease. Furthermore, it has been shown that the trust of believers in religious organizations depends on the size and number of denominations in selected post-communist countries of Central Europe. The results of the work did not show that if the market share of the dominant denomination increases, the scope of regulations of religious organizations will also increase.
