Recent research of Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum, the syphilis spirochete, gives a lot of molecularly-genetic data about bacterial strains that causes syphilis. At the same time data about causative agents of diseases that are very similar to causative agent of syphilis (Treponema pallidum ssp. pertenue and Treponema pallidum ssp. endemicum) are accumulating.
