Portrait of the American Ideals in the Works of Arthur Miller

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zkoumáním a hledáním amerických ideálů v dílech amerického dramatika Arthura Millera. Tato práce nemá za úkol doslovně popisovat děj jednotlivých her, ale snaží se zaměřit na motivy amerických ideálů, které se v těchto dílech vyskytují. První část práce se zabývá třemi Millerovi divadelními hrami v pořadí Smrt obchodního cestujícího, Pohled z mostu a Všichni moji synové. Ačkoliv hra Smrt obchodního cestujícího není chronologicky první Millerova hra, přesto je v práci rozebrána jako první kvůli snazšímu pozdějšímu odkazovaní na její části z dalších Millerových děl. Druhá část práce se věnuje Arturu Millerovi samotnému, jelikož jeho názor a postoj k věci je pro pochopení jeho myšlenek důležitý.

Abstract:

This bachelor work explores and comments American ideals in the works of the playwright Arthur Miller. Aim of this thesis is not to exactly describe the plot of the plays, but it tries to aim at examples of American ideals that appear in these works. First part of the work is focused upon three Miller?s plays in order Death of a Salesman, A View from the Bridge and All My Sons. Despite Death of a Salesman is not chronologically first Miller?s play, still it is discussed at first due to better comparison of its parts with other Miller?s works. The second part is devoted to Arthur Miller himself, because his opinion and attitude is important for better understanding of his ideas.
