Price discrimination is a ubiquitous and pervasive phenomenon present in many markets, which used to be treated quite strictly by competition authorities in Europe. Since then, however, the focus of antitrust has been shifting towards a more economic approach emphasizing positive effects of previously formalistically condemned practices on consumer welfare.
