The Relationship between Attachment and Anxiety in Adolescents During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá souvislostí citové vazby a aktuálně prožívané úzkosti u dospívajících v období světové pandemie COVID-19. Teoretická část je věnována vymezení konceptu citové vazby v kontextu dospívání a zátěžových situací, úzkosti, charakteristice vývojového období dospívání a pandemické situace. Cílem práce bylo prostřednictvím kvantitativního výzkumu zjistit, zda souvisí citová vazba dospívajících s prožívanou úzkostí během pandemie. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 440 dospívajících ve věku 15 až 19 let. Úzkost byla měřena pomocí nástroje The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) a citová vazba prostřednictvím nástroje Experiences in Close Relationships Scale (ECR). Součástí výzkumu bylo také zjišťování pocitů dospívajících v souvislosti s pandemickou situací. Výsledky výzkumu ukázaly významnou souvislost mezi citovou vazbou a aktuální úzkostí v době pandemie COVID-19. Úzkost pozitivně korelovala se vztahovou úzkostností i vyhýbavostí, přičemž jistá citová vazba byla spojena se signifikantně nižší mírou úzkosti než nejisté typy vazby. Nejvyšší míru úzkosti prožívali dospívajících s dezorganizovanou citovou vazbou. Rozdíl v míře prožívané úzkosti v závislosti na prodělání onemocnění COVID-19 se ukázal jako statisticky nesignifikantní.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the relationship between attachment and state anxiety experienced in adolescents during the global pandemic COVID-19. The theoretical part is devoted to the definition of the concept of attachment in the context of adolescence and stressful situations, the anxiety, the characteristics of the developmental period of adolescence and the pandemic situation. The aim of the thesis was to find out, through quantitative research, whether attachment is related to experienced anxiety in adolescents during the pandemic. The research sample consisted of 440 adolescents aged 15 to 19 years. State anxiety was measured using The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and attachment was measured using the Experiences in Close Relationships Scale (ECR). The survey also seeks to find out adolescents' feelings about the pandemic situation. The results showed a significant association between attachment and state anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic. State anxiety was positively correlated with both attachment anxiety and avoidance. Secure attachment style was associated with significantly lower levels of state anxiety than insecure attachment styles. Adolescents with disorganized attachment style experienced the highest levels of anxiety. The difference in state anxiety depending on the experience of COVID-19 was statistically insignificant.
