Importance of sensory activations in clients with dementia

Abstract:

Strukturovaný abstrakt: Úvod: všechny podněty zpracovávané naším mozkem k němu přicházejí prostřednictvím smyslů. Naše smysly jsou tak zdroji, které poskytují nesčetné možnosti pro smyslovou aktivizaci, která je jednou z metod, jak probudit k činnosti klienta seniora s demencí, zachovat co nejdéle jeho stávající schopnosti, soběstačnost, samostatnost. Cíl práce: přispět k řešení problematiky smyslové aktivizace klientů s demencí. Poukázat na využití technik smyslové aktivizace a dalších při ergoterapeutické intervenci u klientky s demencí po Collesově zlomenině PHK v pobytovém zařízení pro seniory. Metodika: případová studie klientky s demencí po Collesově zlomenině. Metodologickými nástroji je rozhovor s klientkou, pečujícím personálem, přímé pozorování, analýza zdravotní dokumentace, záznam ze sociálního šetření před nástupem do pobytového zařízení. Ergoterapeutické intervence probíhaly jako součást péče o klientku po dobu 3 měsíců. Byla provedena anamnéza, vstupní a výstupní ergoterapeutická vyšetření formou standardizovaných testů - test Barthelové (ADL), Addenbrookský kognitivní test (ACE-R), Geriatrická škála deprese dle Yesavage (GDS -15), test úchopů, vlastní test autorky pro zjištění schopnosti komunikace a ovlivnění nálady. Byl stanoven krátkodobý a dlouhodobý ergoterapeutický cíl. Výsledky: výsledky ergoterapie byly vyhodnoceny zvoleným testováním na začátku, v průběhu a na konci ergoterapeutického procesu v průběhu 3 měsíců. Byly zde uvedeny rozdíly ve vstupním a výstupním hodnocení prostřednictvím tabulky, byla zajištěna fotodokumentace. Závěr: splnění cílů a úkolů práce, vyjádření autora k dané problematice.

Structured Abstract: Introduction: all stimuli processed by our brain come to it through the senses. Thus, our senses are resources that provide countless opportunities for sensory activation, which is one of the methods of awakening to activity the elderly client with dementia, to preserve his existing abilities, self-sufficiency and independence as long as possible. Aim of the thesis: to contribute to the solution of the problem of sensory activation of clients with dementia. To point out the use of sensory activation techniques and others in occupational therapy intervention for a client with dementia after Colles fracture of right upper extremity in a residential care facility for the elderly. Methods: a case study of a client with dementia after Colles fracture. The methodological tools will be an interview with the client, with the care staff, a direct observation, an analysis of medical records, and a record of a social investigation prior to admission to a residential care facility. Occupational therapy interventions were conducted as part of the client's care for 3 months. A history, initial and exit occupational therapy assessments were conducted in the form of standardized tests Barthel test (ADL), Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination (ACE-R), Geriatric Depression Scale by Yesavage (GDS -15), grip test, self-test to determine communication skills and mood affect. A short and long term occupational therapy goal will be set. Results: the results of the occupational therapy goal will be evaluated by selected testing at the beginning, during and at the end of the occupational therapy process over 5 months. Differences in baseline and outcome scores will be reported via a table and photo documentation will be provided. Discusion: an evaluation of the results of the bachelor thesis, the fulfilment of the aims and objectives of the thesis, the author's comments on the subject.
