Void, Silence and Absence in Art : Case Study of Selected Avant-Garde Artists in the 20th Century

Abstract:

The Bachelor thesis “Void, Silence and Absence in Art : Case Study of selected works of avant-garde artists in the 20th century” deals with an emptied form of artwork. In the introduction, the thesis presents to the reader a brief overview of the concepts of aesthetic formalism- Kant's asemantic “pleasant game of feelings”, Hanslick's autoreferential “musical idea” and “significant form” of Clive Bell. Based on these ideas the thesis contains a case study concerned with the best known experiments of the 20th century Avant-garde artists, who showed a tendency to probelmatise and dismantle the author's statement in art by emptying the form of the artwork- using the categories of emptiness, silence and absence. The thesis will primarily make use of the works of Immanuel Kant- “Critique of Judgement”, Eduard Hanslick- “The Beautiful in Music” and Clive Bell- “Art”.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca Prázdno, ticho a absencia v umení : Prípadová štúdia vybraných avantgardných diel umelcov 20. storočia sa zaoberá vyprázdnenou formou umeleckého diela. Práca čitateľom v úvode predstaví stručný prehľad koncepcií estetického formalizmu – Kantovu asémantickú „príjemnú hru pocitov“, Hanslickovu autoreferenčnú „hudobnú ideu“ a „významovú formu“ Cliva Bella. Na základe týchto idey bude v práci vypracovaný pokus o prípadové štúdie najznámejších pokusov avantgardných umelcov 20. storočia, ktorí prejavovali snahu o problematizáciu a demontovanie autorskej výpovede v umení práve vyprázdnením formy umeleckého diela – využitím kategórií „prázdna“, „ticha“ a „absencie“ . Práca bude primárne pracovať s textami Immanuela Kanta - Kritika súdnosti, Eduarda Hanslicka – O hudebním krásnu a Cliva Bella – Art.
