Melancholia in Quebec literature

Abstract:

This master’s thesis aims to implement phenomenological explanation in Quebec French-language literature based on novels of four writers: Kamouraska by Anne Hébert, Lettres chinoises by Ying Chen, Homme invisible à la fenêtre by Monique Proulx and Borderline by Marie-Sissi Labrèche. The main methodological line of our research is given by the study Mourning and Melancholia by Sigmund Freud. However, due to the overlap of Freud’s theory as well as character of the studied phenomenon we chose to complement Jacques Lacan’s psychoanalysis and Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s philosophy.

Abstract:

Magisterská práce si klade za cíl realizovat fenomenologické přiblížení melancholie ve francouzsky psané quebecké literatuře na základě románů čtyř spisovatelek: Kamouraska Anne Hébertové, Lettres chinoises Ying Chenové, Homme invisble à la fenêtre Monique Proulxové a Borderline Marie-Sissi Labrèchové. Hlavní metodologickou linii našeho zkoumání ustanovila studie Sigmunda Freuda Truchlení a melancholie, nicméně, vzhledem k přesahu Freudovy teorie, ale i k charakteru studovaného fenoménu, jsme jako doplnění zvolili psychoanalýzu Jacquese Lacana a filosofii Maurice Merleau-Pontyho.
