Abstract:

Migrace z monolitických systémů na mikroservisy vyvolala debatu zaměřenou na to, zda přijmout antifragilní nebo odolnou strategii pro řešení neočekávaných škodlivých událostí. Cílem této práce je prozkoumat literaturu výzkumu o odolnosti a antifragility, aby byl každý koncept správně definován. Dále ilustruje roli antifragility a odolnosti v mikroslužebních systémech. Na základě existujících softwarových materiálů provádíme technickou analýzu antifragility a odolnosti k určení jejich výhod a nevýhod. Prostřednictvím této analýzy se také snažíme rozlišovat mezi křehkými a robustními systémy. Tato analýza by mohla vývojářům pomoct lépe porozumět dopadu přijetí antifragility a odolnosti v softwarové architektuře.V souladu s tím implementujeme sadu prototypových vzorů antifragility na mikroslužebním systému pomocí Spring framework, a děláme injekci chyb k prozkoumání úrovně křehkosti systému v sadě experimentů přijímajících chaos engineering toolkit. Nakonec tuto práci zakončujeme identifikací výzev a budoucích směrů výzkumu antifragilních mikroslužebních systémů.

Abstract:

The migration from monolith systems to microservices has sparked a debate centered on whether to adopt an antifragile or resilient strategy to deal with unexpected harmful events. Thus, the focus of this thesis is to examine the literature research on resilience and antifragility to define each concept properly. Next, it illustrates the role of antifragility and resilience in microservice systems. Based on existing software materials, we conduct a technical analysis of antifragility and resilience to determine their advantages and drawbacks. Through this analysis, we try also to distinguish between fragile and robust systems. This analysis could help developers to understand better the impact of adopting antifragility and resilience in software architecture. Accordingly, we implement a set of prototype antifragility patterns on a microservice system using the Spring framework, injecting failures to explore the level of fragility of the system in a set of experiments adopting a chaos engineering toolkit. Finally, we conclude this thesis by identifying challenges and future research directions on antifragile microservice systems.
