Basilica of St. Vitus, Wenceslaus, Adalbertus and Virgin Mary on Prague Castle. The first phase of construction.

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá první stavební etapou románské fáze baziliky svatého Víta na Pražském hradě. Pro její potřeby bylo zpracováno několik druh pramenů. V prvé řadě byly znovu zaměřeny relikty dochované v terénu, pak byly znovu vyhodnoceny archivy výkopové dokumentace vedené od 70.let 19. století. Následně byl pak zpracován soubor architektonických článků, skulptury a nástěnných maleb objevených archeologickým výzkumem. Na základně tohoto materiálu vznikla představa o podobě první stavební fáze baziliky z let 1060-1096. Přijetí dvouchórového stavebního typu a interpretace jednotlivých části byla vypracována na základně vývoje liturgie, vazby na arcibiskupství v Mohuči.

Abstract:

The work is focused on the first building stage of the Romanic phase of the St. Vitus Basilica at the Prague Castle. Several sources were processed for the needs of this building stage. First the relicts preserved in the terrain were re-measured; then the archives of the excavation documentation conducted in the 70’s of the 19.century were re-evaluated. Consequently the file of architectonic articles, sculpture and wall paintings discovered by the archeological research was worked up. Based on this material the idea of the first form of the Basilica from the years 1060-1096 originated. Due to the study of liturgy and link to the archbishopric in Mayence we could better understand and explain the double-choir building type and elaborate the interpretation of single parts.
