Peritoneal Dialysis from the Patient's Perspective

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na kvalitu života a problematiku pacienta léčeného peritoneální dialýzou. V dnešní době je stále více pacientů, kteří se léčí peritoneální dialýzou. Léčbou pomocí peritoneální dialýzy se jedinci změní jeho dosavadní život a životní styl. Pacienti, kteří si vybírají léčbu peritoneální dialýzou, v první řadě upřednostňují provádění léčby v domácím prostředí a flexibilitu rozvrhu. Peritoneální dialýza je však metoda, která vyžaduje, aby pacient ovládal řadu specifických činností a dokázal předcházet možným komplikacím. V teoretické části této práce jsou popsány možnosti léčby onemocnění ledvin, specifika peritoneální dialýzy, role všeobecné sestry o pacienta s peritoneální dialýzou a provedení peritoneální dialýzy v domácím prostředí. V praktické části, která byla realizována kvalitativní metodou průzkumu, jsou stanoveny čtyři průzkumné cíle. Informace ke každému cíli byly zjišťovány řadou otázek, které byly kladeny respondentům v rámci polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Během rozhovorů jsme zjišťovali, jak pacienti provádějí domácí peritoneální dialýzu včetně péče o vstup, jaké jsou problematické oblasti v provádění domácí peritoneální dialýzy včetně péče o vstup z pohledu pacienta, jak dialyzační léčba ovlivňuje kvalitu života z pohledu pacienta a jak probíhá edukace a spolupráce s ambulancí peritoneální dialýzy. Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the quality of life and issues of patients treated with peritoneal dialysis. Nowadays, more and more patients are being treated with peritoneal dialysis. This type of treatment changes every individual's previous life and lifestyle. Patients who choose peritoneal dialysis primarily prefer home treatment and flexibility in daily schedule. However, peritoneal dialysis is a method that requires the patient to manage number of specific processes and to be able to prevent possible complications. The theoretical part of this thesis describes the ways of kidney disease treatment, the specifics of peritoneal dialysis, the role of general nurse in the process of treating a patient with peritoneal dialysis and performing peritoneal dialysis at home. There were four goals set for the thesis' practical part which was conducted using a qualitative research method. The information on each objective was ascertained by a series of questions that the respondents were asked about during semi-structured interviews. Through the interviews, we found out how patients perform peritoneal dialysis including admission care at home, what are the problematic areas in the implementation of home peritoneal dialysis including care of the catheter entrance site from the patient's point of view, how dialysis treatment affects patient's quality of life in their point of view, and how the pateint's education and their cooperation with the peritoneal dialysis clinic is like.
