The distribution and taxonomic composition of aquatic macroinvertebrate assemblages of fishponds in relation to local environmental conditions

Abstract:

Hydrobiologický výzkum rybníků byl doposud zaměřen spíše na produkční poměry ve společenstvu zooplanktonu či zoobentosu, jakožto základny přirozené potravy pro rybí obsádku. O tom, jak fungují společenstva vodních bezobratlých a které ekologické faktory mají zásadní vliv na jejich taxonomické a funkční složení, nemáme z rybníků téměř žádné informace. Litorální pásmo hostí největší diverzitu mokřadních organismů v rámci rybničního ekosystému, přesto bylo při výzkumu vodních bezobratlých oproti pásmu volné vody opomíjeno. Tato disertační práce je z toho důvodu zaměřena na společenstva vodních bezobratlých žijících v porostech emerzních makrofyt (v rákosinách) v rybničním litorálu. V souvislosti s nejednotnou a nesnadnou metodikou odběru v tomto prostředí byl jako vhodné vzorkovací zařízení modifikován Gerkingův rámový odběrák s posuvným břitem. Tato odběrová metoda je poměrně jednoduchá a umožňuje odběr frakce zahrnující celý vodní sloupec včetně odříznutých částí stébel vzorkovaných emerzních makrofyt a poskytuje kvantitativní data. Oproti ruční síťce, se kterou byla odběrová účinnost porovnávána ve stejných biotopech, byl rámový odběrák účinnější v zachycení přisedlých a pomalu se pohybujících bezobratlých, zatímco aktivně plovoucích bezobratlých bylo v těchto vzorcích méně oproti vzorkům ze síťky. Obě srovnávané metody však zachytily stejné vyšší taxony. Pro kvantitativní vzorkování fauny vázané na kořenovou zónu emerzních porostů jsme dále vyvinuli nový typ kořenové sondy. Při vzorkování v rozsáhlých rákosinách rybníka Nesyt v roce 2005 bylo zjištěno, že se mění struktura společenstva fytofilních bezobratlých podél gradientu od volné vody směrem ke břehu, spolu s postupnými změnami v podmínkách prostředí. V částech rákosiny v blízkosti volné vody se početněji vyskytovaly aktivně plovoucí taxony dýchající pomocí tracheálních žáber nebo preferující biotopy s volnou vodou a s převahou jemných sedimentů či anorganického substrátu, sběrači a ektoparaziti. Oproti tomu uvnitř hustých rákosin v blízkosti břehu dominovali spásači, seškrabávači, kouskovači a bezobratlí preferující biotopy s makrofyty a velké množství partikulované organické hmoty. Pro zjištění jak ovlivňuje míra rybničního hospodaření společenstva bezobratlých v litorálu a profundálu bylo vzorkováno 13 rybníků na Českomoravské Vysočině a na jižní Moravě. Z tohoto vzorkování zatím byly získány jen dílčí výsledky týkající se máloštětinatců a pakomárů. Zatímco v litorálu měli máloštětinatci (především naidky) větší druhovou diverzitu, v profundálu dosahovali větších denzit (především nitěnky). V případě larev pakomárů byla zjištěna obdobná diverzita a denzita v litorálu i v profundálu v jarním období, zatímco na podzim byla zaznamenána výrazně nižší diverzita i denzita pakomárů v profundálu, zatímco v litorálu zůstalo společenstvo stále obdobně bohaté jako na jaře. Tato zjištění lze vysvětlit odlišným působením rybí obsádky v různých sezonách a na různé taxony obývající profundál a litorál. Vliv odbahnění rybníka na litorální bezobratlé byl sledován v letech 2003–2008 na rybníku Štěpánek na Vysočině. Po odbahnění tohoto rybníka došlo k nápadnému poklesu abundance i diverzity litorálních bezobratlých a k likvidaci litorálních porostů. Ve sledovaném společenstvu byl po odbahnění zaznamenán posun v taxonomické i funkční struktuře, především posun od fytofilních taxonů k taxonům volné vody. ěla zřejmě největší vliv sukcese litorální emerzní vegetace. V roce 2006 byly odebrány vzorky sedimentu, rákosu a plovatek bahenních na 18 rybnících za účelem analýzy vybraných těžkých kovů (Cd, Hg, Pb). Zatímco obsah kadmia a olova byl větší v sedimentu, obsah rtuti byl nalezen nejvyšší u plovatek. Vyšší obsah rtuti byl v některých případech nalezen ve východních částech oproti západním částem vzorkovaných rybníků. V sedimentech rybníků s větší rozlohou litorálních porostů pak byly nalezeny nejnižší hodnoty u všech sledovaných kovů. Předložená disertační práce ukazuje, že distribuce fytofilních bezobratlých není v rákosinách rovnoměrná ani náhodná, ale že ji ovlivňuje celá řada faktorů, od lokálních stanovištních podmínek po situaci v přítomných potravních řetězcích a historii lokality. Rovněž potvrzuje, že litorální emerzní porosty hrají důležitou roli v zachování biodiverzity a v cyklech těžkých kovů v rybničním ekosystému.

Hydrobiological surveys of fishponds have been targeted mainly on the production of zooplankton and zoobenthos so far, which provide the natural food base for fish stock. There is practically no information about functioning of macroinvertebrate assemblages and about fundamental ecological factors influencing their taxonomical and functional composition in fishponds. Although the littoral zone has the greatest diversity of wetland organisms within a fishpond ecosystem, it has been mostly neglected and the research on aquatic invertebrates has been targeted on the profundal zone. This PhD thesis is therefore focused on aquatic macroinvertebrates of emergent macrophyte beds (reed beds) in fishpond littoral. Because of the lack of standardized and simple sampling methods applicable in this habitat, a modified Gerking box sampler with a movable cutter was constructed. This rather simple method enables the sampling of emergent macrophyte stems and water column among them and provides quantitative data. Its efficiency was compared with a frequently used sweep net in the same habitat. Sampling with the frame box sampler was more effective in capturing slow-moving or sedentary animals, while fast-swimming invertebrates were less abundant in samples taken by the frame box compared to sweep net samples. However, both sampling devices captured identical higher taxa of macroinvertebrates. Moreover, we developed a new type of core sampler for quantitative collection of animals inhabiting the root zone of emergent plant beds. During sampling in extensive reed beds of the Nesyt fishpond in 2005 we found that the macroinvertebrate assemblage changed significantly along the investigated horizontal transect from the open water towards the shore, together with gradual changes in some environmental factors. In the reed bed areas near the open water, free-swimming invertebrates with tracheal gill breathing, taxa preferring pelal and inorganic substrates, gatherers/collectors and ectoparasites were more abundant. On the other hand, grazers and scrapers, shredders and invertebrates preferring phytal and POM (particulate organic matter) microhabitats dominated in the shallow dense interior of reed beds close to the shore. The research on the impact of the fish farming intensity on macroinvertebrate assemblage in the littoral and profundal zone was performed on 13 fishponds in the Czech-Moravian Highland and in the South Moravia. Only partial results from this study on oligochaetes and chironomid larvae have been obtained so far. Higher taxonomic diversity of oligochaetes (mainly naidids) was found in the littoral zone, whereas higher density (mainly tubificids) was found in the profundal zone. In the case of chironomids, similar diversity and density were found in the littoral and profundal zones in spring, while in autumn markedly lower diversity and density were recorded in the profundal compared to the littoral zone. These findings can be explained by different impact of fish stock in two seasons and on different taxa living in the littoral and profundal. The impact of sediment removal on littoral invertebrates was studied on the Štěpánek fishpond in 2003–2008. A significant decrease in both abundance and diversity of macroinvertebrates and destruction of littoral macrophyte beds was detected after the pond restoration. A significant shift in the taxonomic and functional composition of the macroinvertebrate assemblage after the removal of the sediment was recorded, especially the shift from phytophilous to more open-water taxa. Succession of the investigated assemblage in the years following the sediment removal was mainly influenced by fish farming practice and local conditions, especially by the succession of littoral macrophyte beds. ues were significantly higher in bottom sediments than in reed and snails, whereas the mercury values were highest in snails. In some cases higher mercury contents were found in eastern parts of the investigated ponds if compared to the western parts. Lower values of all investigated metals were found in the sediments of ponds with larger areas of reed beds in their littorals. This PhD thesis shows that the distribution of phytophilous macroinvertebrates in reed beds is not uniform and accidental, but that it is influenced by many factors, from local environmental conditions to the situation in the present trophic cascade and the history of the locality. It also confirms that littoral emergent macrophyte beds play a very important role in biodiversity conservation and in heavy metals cycles in fishpond ecosystems.
