Contraceptive methods and awareness of them among women in fertile age

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na kontracepční metody a povědomí o nich mezi ženami ve fertilním věku. Součástí práce je stručný popis vnitřních pohlavních orgánů a jejich funkcí. Dále se práce zabývá ovariálním a menstruačním cyklem, jejich fungováním a hormony jež je ovlivňují. Hlavní část se věnuje antikoncepčním metodám a jejich zařazení do skupin dle me-chanismu účinku. Každá metoda je stručně popsána včetně jejich výhod, nevýhod, případně vedlejších účinků, a to jak negativních, tak naopak i těch pozitivních. Především u hormonál-ní antikoncepce jsou pak vyjmenovány indikace a kontraindikace pro jejich předepsání. Ke každé metodě je také uveden Pearlův index, jež udává jejich spolehlivost. Výzkum zaměřený na vědomosti o kontracepčních metodách prokázal, že ačkoliv má skoro každá žena zkuše-nost s používáním některé z dostupných kontracepčních metod, pouze polovina žen si myslí, že disponuje dostatečnými informacemi o nich.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is focused on contraceptive methods and awareness of them among wo-men in childbearing age. The work contains a brief description of the internal genital organs and their functions. In the next part, the work deals with the ovarian and menstrual cycle, their functioning and hormones that affect them. The main part of the thesis concentrates on contraceptive methods and their classification into groups according to their mechanism of functioning. Each method is briefly described, including its advantages, disadvantages and potential side effects, negative as well as positive ones. Especially in the case of hormonal contraception, the indications and contraindications for their prescription are listed. For each method, a Pearl index is also introduced, which indicates their reliability. Research on aware-ness of contraceptive methods has shown that although almost every woman has an experi-ence using some of the available contraceptive methods, only half of women think they have sufficient information about them.
