Effect of Virtual Reality Resources on Self-Conception of Physically Disabled People

Abstract:

Problematika: Od roku 2016 je technologie virtuální reality přenesena do komerčního sektoru a tím způsobuje boom v oblasti interakce člověka s počítačovou technologií. Nabízí svým unikátním způsobem a technologií nové možnosti vlivu na člověka. Tělesné postižení představuje velkou zátěž v oblasti každodenního života, a to jak z pohledu fyzického, tak psychického. Sebepojetí je důležitý faktor vlastní psychiky člověka, jakožto vnímání sebe sama. Cíl a metodologie: Cílem této bakalářské práce je zjistit, zda prostředky virtuální reality mohou ovlivnit sebepojetí tělesně postižených osob. Tělesné postižení bylo v rámci výzkumu stanoveno na znevýhodnění v oblasti dolních končetin pro účely výzkumu. Pro výzkum bylo vybráno 10 lidí s tělesným postižením do experimentální skupiny a 6 lidí do kontrolní skupiny. Věkové rozhraní probandů bylo 29-55 let. Výsledky: Experimentální skupina dosáhla v testování sebepojetí po absolvování šestitýdenního období používání prostředků virtuální reality statisticky významně lepších výsledků v obou použitých evaluačních nástrojích než skupina kontrolní, p-hodnota byla u Rosenberg testu 0,001 a u Sorensen testu 0,022. Hladina významnosti byla stanovena na = 0,05. Nicméně došlo u experimentální skupiny ke statisticky významnému zlepšení v testování před intervenující proměnnou a po skončení aktivního šetření pouze u jednoho ze dvou testů. Zde byla zjištěna p-hodnota u Rosenberg testu 0,05 a u Sorensen testu 0,103. Dále také bylo zjišťováno pomocí dotazníku autora, jak experimentální skupina hodnotí virtuální realitu na škále od 1-7, průměrný výsledek byl 6,9. Závěr: Tento výzkum pomohl přispět k řešení problematiky v oblasti psychiky vnímání sebe sama a sebehodnocení u tělesně postižených osob pomocí virtuální reality. Dále přispěla k dalšímu zjišťování v oblasti benefitů, které virtuální realita může přinést lidem. Otevírá tak i prostor pro další testování a výzkumy v oblasti virtuální reality a problematiky tělesně postižených.

Abstract:

Matter: Since 2016, when the technology of virtual reality has been brought to the commercial sphere, it causes a big boom in the field of human-computer interaction. In its unique way, this technology offers new possibilities of influence on a person. Physical disability is a major burden in the ordinary life of a person because of physical and mental suffering. Self-concept is an important factor of the mental state of the human, the same as self-esteem. Aim of study and methodology: This bachelor thesis aims to find out whether virtual reality can affect the self-concept of physically disabled people. This study targets physical disability specified as a handicap of lower body parts in this study. For this research, ten people with this physical disability were chosen for the experimental group and six people with a similar disability for the control group. The age of subjects ranges between 29 and 55 years. Results: The experimental group achieved significantly better results in all self-concept testing after six weeks session program of using virtual reality than the control group, the p-value was 0.001 for Rosenberg test and 0.022 for Sorensen test. For this measurement, the p-value was set at = 0.05. Nevertheless, the experimental group achieved significantly better results in post-testing than pre-testing only in one of the tests, the p-value of 0.05 for Rosenberg test and 0.103 for Sorensen test. Also, by using the author's questionnaire, this study revealed that the experimental group evaluates virtual reality at a score of 6.9 on scale 1 to 7. Conclusion: This research contributed to resolving issues of self-concept and the self-esteem of physically disabled people by using virtual reality. Consequently, this thesis has contributed to another research in the area of benefits, which might have virtual reality brings to humanity. It shows new possibilities for additional testing and researching in the area of virtual reality in relation to physical disability.
