Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá užitím préteritních tvarů modálních sloves v obchodní korespondenci. Primárním cílem této práce je dokázat, že modalita a préteritní tvary modálních sloves jsou vzájemně propojeny s vyjádřením zdvořilosti a nepřímosti v obchodní korespondenci.
