Self-harm Behavior at Older School Age Children in the Context of Family Relationships

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem diplomové práce bylo postihnout fenomén sebepoškozování v rodinném kontextu. Konkrétně jsme se zaměřili na porovnání kvality vztahu s matkou, otcem a sourozenci u sebepoškozujících a nesebepoškozujících se jedinců. Teoretická část pojednává o problematice sebepoškozování a shrnuje nejnovější poznatky v dané oblasti. Dále se věnuje období staršího školního věku a rodinné problematice. Empirická část je kvantitativně zaměřena. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo celkem 1371 respondentů, jimiž byli žáci druhého stupně základních škol ve věku 13-15 let. Užitými metodami ve výzkumu byly Self-Harm Inventory (Sansone, Wiederman, 1995), Self-Harm Behavior Questionnaire (Guetierrez, 1998), Children´s Depression Inventory (Kovacs, 1998), Dotazník vnímání sebe sama pro děti (Harter, 1982) a na začátek celého dotazníku byly zařazeny položky zjišťující demografické údaje týkající se respondentů. V našem výzkumném souboru bylo prokázáno, že sebepoškozující se jedinci mají průměrně horší vztah s matkou, otcem i sourozenci než nesebepoškozující se jedinci. Dále jsme zjistili, že sebepoškozující se jedinci častěji pochází z neúplných rodin (35,1%) než nesebepoškozující se dospívající (28,2%). Získané poznatky nám umožňují chápat některé další souvislosti problematiky sebepoškozování. Mohou tak být přínosem pro odborníky, kteří se věnují práci právě s dospívající mládeží.

Abstract:

The main aim of this work is to cover the phenomenon of self-harm in the context of family relations. Namely, it concentrated on the comparison of the quality of relation between mother, father and brothers or sisters of autodestructive and non-autodestructive individuals. Its theoretical part deals with the problematics of self-harm and it sumarizes the newest findings in the given area. It discusses the period of older school age and family problematics. Its empirical part is quantitatively focused. The researched unit was made by 1371 respondents in total. The unit consisted of pupils at the second level of basic schools in the age between 13-15 years. The methods used for the research were Self-Harm Inventory (Sansone, Wiederman, 1995), Self-Harm Behavior Questionnaire (Guetierrez, 1998), Children´s Depression Inventory (Kovacs, 1998), Questionnaire of self-perception for children (Harter, 1982). Questions about demographical data regarding the respondents were included at the beginning of the form. It was shown in our research unit that the autodestructive individuals had a worse relation with the mother, father and brothers or sisters on average than the non-autodestructive individuals. It was found out that the autodestructive individuals were more like to come from incomplete families (35,1%) in comparison to the non-autodestructive adolescents (28,2%). The researched findings enable us to understand some other coherences of the self-harm problematics. They can be contributional to the specialists who deal with the adolescents.
