Gender issues in the hospitality

Abstract:

V této diplomové práci se zabývám zjišťováním, zda má široká veřejnost povědomí o genderové problematice. Dále se zaměřuji a zabývám komparací se zaměřením na genderovou vyváženost v manažerských pozicích v pražských hotelech Alcron Hotel Praha a Hilton Prague. Také jsem zkoumal, zda vedení obou výše zmiňovaných hotelů věnuje dostatečnou pozornost této problematice. K získání dat potřebných pro diplomovou práci proběhlo v obou hotelech dotazníkové šetření, a to v období od 7. 1. 2019 do 28. 2. 2019. Tohoto šetření se zúčastnili zaměstnanci obou hotelů, kteří zastupují vedoucí manažerské pozice, jako například F&B manažer, manažeři restaurací, šéfkuchaři (tohoto dotazníkového šetření se v hotelu Alcron Hotel Praha zúčastnil např. i známý šéfkuchař Roman Paulus), personální manažeři a manažeři dalších středisek v hotelech. Ve stejném termínu také probíhalo online internetové šetření, které v této práci budu označovat jako předvýzkum genderové problematiky. Tento předvýzkum se zabývá stejnou problematikou, ale není zaměřen na hotelnictví, poukazuje na to, jak široká veřejnost vnímá genderové rozdíly mezi pohlavími a jaké s nimi mají zkušenosti

Abstract:

In this diploma thesis I am discussing the fact of whether the general public has an awareness about gender issues. Also, I am focusing on a comparison between Prague hotels Alcron Hotel Praha, and Hilton Prague, with a focus on gender equality in manager positions. Concurrently, I examined if the two hotels are paying adequate attention to gender problems. To obtain the crucial data for my thesis, I have used a survey research method in both hotels during the timeframe of 1. 7. 2019 and 28. 2. 2019. The participants of the survey were employees of both hotels who hold management or supervisory positions. These included F&B managers, restaurant managers, chefs (Roman Paulus, a famous chef from Alcron Hotel Praha), human resources managers, and a wide variety of managers of other departments within the hotels. During the same time frame, I conducted an online survey which will be used in this thesis as pre-research of gender issues. This online pre-research is focused on gender issues not only within the hotel industry, but on the understanding among the general public. It is beneficial to the research to obtain awareness and knowledge the general public has in relation to gender differences between sexes, and their experience with the issues.
