"My mother has Alzheimer disease": Experience with mother with Alzheimer disease from perspective of caregiving daughters

Anotace:

Diplomová práce se zabývá zkušeností dcer, které pečují o matky s Alzheimerovou chorobou. Práce je zaměřena i na vztah matka – dcera a na ovlivnění tohoto vztahu v důsledku matčina onemocnění. Práce se skládá z teoretické a praktické části. Teorie se zabývá tématy Alzheimerova choroba, Pečující dcera a Vztahem pečující dcera – matka. Výzkumná část se skládá z popisu výzkumu, ze shrnutí výsledků a diskuze. Studie má explorativní charakter. Hlavní výzkumná otázka zní: „Jaká je zkušenost dcer, které pečují o matku s Alzheimerovou chorobou?“ Data byla získávána prostřednictvím polostrukturovaného rozhovoru se třemi respondentkami. Pro analýzu dat byla zvolena Interpretativní fenomenologická analýza dle Smitha, Larkina a Flowerse (2009). Výsledkem analýzy je zjištění, že hlavním tématem zkušenosti pečujících dcer je náročnost, která se objevuje ve všech ostatních třech hlavních tématech (proces nemoci, já jako pečující, vztah matka – dcera) a třinácti podtématech. Zkušenost pečujících dcer je komplexním fenoménem, ve kterém se jednotlivá témata vzájemně prolínají a ovlivňují. V závěru výzkumu jsou výsledky přehledně diskutovány a dávány do souvislostí s teoretickými zjištěními. Jsou zde popsány také limity výzkumu a možnosti jeho budoucího směřování.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is about experience of daughters, who are taking care of mothers with diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. The thesis is also focused on relationship mother – daughter and influence of mother’s disease on this relationship. The thesis consists of theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part of the study deals with themes of Alzheimer’s disease, caregiving daughter and relationship mother – daughter. Practical part consists of research description, summary of results and discussion. Study has an explorative character. The main research question is: „What is the experience of daughters who take care of mothers with Alzheimer´s disease?“ The data was reached by semi-structured interview with three respondents. The data was analyzed according to Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis by Smith, Larkin, Flower (2009). The analysis came out with result that main theme of the experience of caregiving daughters is difficulty, which appears in each main theme (process of the disease, me as caregiver, relationship mother – daughter) and in all thriteen subthemes. The experience of caregiving daughters is complexe phenomenon, in which all themes are connected and influence one another. Results are discussed in a well arranged way and put into context with theoretical findings in the end of the research. Limits of the research and possibilities of future direction are also described.
