Mapping the family relations terminology in Baltic Finnic languages through the lens of etymology

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Mapování příbuzenské terminologie v baltofinských jazycích vetymologické perspektivě seznamuje čtenáře stručně s uralskými jazyky a jejich historií a vývojem. Dále informuje o jedné z podvětví jazykové rodiny, baltofinské jazyky. Stručně se zabývá jejich dialektem, statusem, rozšíření a počtem mluvčích. Současně se snaží přiblížit historii uralistiky. V praktické části se práce zaměřuje na etymologické mapování příbuzenské terminologie ve vybraných jazycích. Komentáře k jednotlivým heslům obsahují původ slov, jejich sémantický rozptyl v blízkých i vzdálených jazycích a případně jejich derivace

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis Mapping the family relations terminology in Baltic Finnic languages through the lens of etymology introduces the reader with uralic languages, their history and evolution. Then focuses briefly on one branch of uralic languages, Balto Finnic languages. It describes their dialects, status, number of speakers and where are the languages spread. At the same time one of the topics is to get reader familiar with the history of the uralic studies. The core of the thesis focuses however on the etymology of the family relations terminology in selected languages. Commentary of the each term contains the origin of the word and their derivations and their semantic variations in closely- and distant related languages.
