Distribution and habitat requirements of the Ural Owl (Strix uralensis Pallas, 1771) in the area of Šumava and Šumava foothills

Abstract:

Početní stavy puštíka bělavého na Šumavě v minulosti velmi kolísaly. Cílem této práce bylo zjistit jeho aktuální rozšíření a biotopové nároky. K tomu byla využita metoda akustického monitoringu s pomocí hlasových záznamníků. Pro monitoring bylo na sledovaném území vytipováno celkem 313 lokalit (nahrávacích bodů). Od roku 2015 do roku 2019 bylo pořízeno 699 nahrávek. Pro všechny nahrávací body byly rovněž zjištěny základní charakteristiky okolních biotopů, které byly získány z online dostupných mapových serverů. Puštíka bělavého se podařilo zaznamenat na 185 nahrávkách. Celkem bylo prokázáno 53 teritorií tohoto druhu, čímž byl potvrzen výrazný nárůst početnosti oproti předchozím odhadům. Nejčastěji se vyskytoval v nadmořských výškách 800–1150 m n. m. ve starých smíšených nebo čistě smrkových porostech v blízkosti holin. Vyhýbal se porostům s vyšším zastoupením pionýrských dřevin (břízy, vrby a olše). Vhodné biotopy se nejčastěji vyskytovaly ve I., III. a IV. zóně Chráněné krajinné oblasti Šumava. Součástí předkládané práce jsou také doporučení pro lesní hospodářství zaměřená na podporu výskytu puštíka bělavého.

Abstract:

The numerical states of the Ural Owl on Šumava greatly fluctuated in the past. The aim of this work was to establish current distribution of the Ural Owl and its habitat requirements. For the research was used an acoustic monitoring method using a voice recorders. A total of 313 locations (recording points) were picketed for monitoring in the territory under observation. 699 recordings were obtained since 2015 to 2019. Basic characteristics of surrounding biotopes were also identified for all recording points, which were obtained from online available map servers. The Ural Owl was recorded on 185 recordings. In total have been proven 53 territories of this species. It confirms significant increase compared to previous estimates. The Ural Owl was most commonly found at altitudes of 800–1150 m in old mixed or purely spruce stands close to the clearings. The Ural Owl avoided stands with a higher representation of pioneer trees (birchs, willows and alders). Suitable forests were mostly situated in the I, III and IV zones of the CHKO Šumava. Guidelines for forest management to support occurrence of the Ural Owl are included in the present thesis.
