The Unintellectual Categorization of Human Attitude to Domestic Animals

Abstract:

Diplomová práce nazvaná "Nekritická kategorizace ve vztahu člověka vůči domestikovaným zvířatům" se zabývá naším rozporuplným vztahem ke zvířecím domestikantům. Je zde na konkrétních příkladech z literatury demonstrováno, kerak rizdílně přistupujeme na jedné straně ke zvířecím miláčkům (zvláště psům a kočkám) a na straně druhé k tzv. hospodářským zvířatům. Přičemž podstatná část textu je věnována rozboru argumentů, které se tuto kategorizaci snaží ospravedlnit. Práce se rovněž vedle všeobecně prezentovaných pozitiv, která člověku domestikace zvířat přinesla, snaží postihnou i její negativa a popisuje též klady a zápory, které přinesla druhé straně, tedy zvířatům.

Abstract:

The diploma work called "The unintellectual categorization of human attitude to domestic animals" deals with our inconsistent relation to domesticated animals. There are shown concrete examples from the bibliography, how different can be our attitude to pets (esp. dogs and cats) on one hand and to so-called farm animals on the other hand. Whereas the main part of the text applies itself to the analysis of arguments, which try to justify that kind of categorization. Besides generally known positives that domestication of animals brought to people, the diploma work discusses its negatives, too and describes also pros an cons that are brought to animals.
