Discrete mathematical transforms and image processing

Abstract:

Tato práce pojednává o použití diskrétní kosinové transformace coby matematického nástroje pro kompresi digitálního obrazu, a následné využití těchto znalostí k výuce tématu na střední škole. Cílem bylo názorně předvést použití poměrně složité matematiky ve sféře studentům velmi blízké, ale také poskytnout vyučujícím podklad pro vedení vlastní výuky za stejným účelem. Práce byla sestavena tak, aby zahrnovala teoretický základ učiva i mnoho příkladů demonstrujících různorodost kvality komprese dle komprimovaného obrazu, ale neopomíjí ani materiály na podporu samotného vyučování. Celá výuka je pak realizována ve finální části, jež díky zpětné vazbě studentů poskytuje celistvý pohled na danou problematiku.

Abstract:

Thesis deals with the use of discrete cosine transform, using a mathematical tool for digital image compression and, in addition, use of this knowledge for teaching the topic in high school. The aim was to demonstrate the use of relatively complex mathematics in a sphere very close to students, but also to provide teachers having the same purpose with a basis for conducting their own lesson. Thesis includes the theoretical basis of the topic, but also many solved problems, demonstrating the diversity of compression quality according to the compressed image and does not neglect the materials to support the teaching itself. In the final part, the whole teaching is then realized, including feedback of the students, which provides a coherent view of the issue.
