Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce popisuje návrh a implementaci nového trojrozměrného virtuálního glóbu, který je funkční přímo v internetovém prohlížeči bez nutnosti instalovat jakýkoli plug-in, addon nebo rozšíření. Samotná implementace je realizována v jazyce JavaScript za použití rozšíření WebGL, které je dostupné ve většině moderních prohlížečů (Mozilla Firefox 4, Google Chrome 10, poslední Safari, nebo Opera 11.50). Stěžejním bodem implementace je vhodná metoda pro správu a renderování obrovských texturových dat. Tato práce analyzuje existující řešení, zhodnocuje jejich použitelnost ve specifikovaném prostředí a navrhuje nové, vhodnější struktury a algoritmy. Výsledky této práce byly zveřejněny pod Klokan Technologies GmbH jako open-source projekt s názvem "WebGL Earth". Do vývoje se již zapojili další studenti a akademičtí pracovníci ze Španělska (Universitat Politecnica de Valencia, Spain) i z komerční sféry (CampToCamp S.A., France/Switzerland). Tato bakalářská práce byla také prezentována na studentské konferenci "GISáček 2011" organizované Institutem Geoinformatiky na VŠB - Technické Univerzitě Ostrava a umístila se třetí ze sedmnácti prací v bakalářské kategorii.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis describes design and implementation of a new three-dimensional virtual globe that works in the web browsers without the need to install any plug-in, addon, or extension. Implementation itself is realized in JavaScript language with WebGL (Web-based Graphics Library) extension that is available in most of the modern web browsers (Mozilla Firefox 4, Google Chrome 10, latest Safari, or Opera 11.50). The key part of the implementation is appropriate texture management and rendering method. This thesis analyzes existing solutions, evaluates their usability in the specified environment, and proposes new, better suitable structures and algorithms. Results of this thesis were released by Klokan Technologies GmbH as an open-source project called "WebGL Earth" that already has contributors from both academical (Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain) and commercial areas (CampToCamp S.A., France/Switzerland). The results of this bachelor thesis were presented at the "GISáček 2011" student conference organized by Institute of Geoinformatics at VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava and placed third out of seventeen presentations in the bachelor category.
