Roma cultural identity and Central Europe

Abstract:

The topic of the dissertation entitled Roma Cultural Identity and Central Europe presents an analysis of the cultural identity and issues of the Roma minority in the context of other minorities. The basis of the work was the reflection of cultural literature, but also the connection with practice, for example in the form of a foreign internship in Poland (Katowice, Auschwitz, Bielsko-Biała and Cieszyn), as well as experience from field visits to Roma settlements (Poland, Hungary). The wide range of ethno-cultural sources creates a panorama of the most important pieces of knowledge from the given area and consequently their application to Roma culture, respectively. the cultural identity of the Roma. In addition to ethnological, cultural, ethnographic or romological knowledge, the work also includes wider conceived psychological, political and societal points of departure, which are connected with the life of the Roma. Culture as a manifestation of group identity appears to be the most important layer of Roma identity. Its problem, complexity, can be characterized by its sub-ethnic differentiation of the Roma. This means that if we proceed from the analysis of the concept of identity as the ability to maintain continuity in space, time and relationships, then it can be assumed that all these factors interact with each other in shaping the group identity of Roma throughout their lives, ie in cultural spaces. .

Abstract:

Téma dizertačnej práce s názvom Rómska kultúrna identita a stredná Európa prináša analýzu kultúrnej identity a problematiky rómskej minority v kontexte iných minorít. Základom práce sa stala reflexia kulturologickej literatúry, ale zároveň aj prepojenie s praxou, napríklad v podobe zahraničnej stáže v Poľsku (Katowice, Osvienčim, Bielsko – Biała a Tešín), ako aj skúseností z terénnych návštev v lokalitách s obyvateľmi rómskych osád na Slovensku a v zahraničí (Poľsko, Maďarsko). Široký rozsah etno-kultúrných prameňov vytvára panorámu najpodstatnejších poznatkov z uvedenej oblasti a následne ich aplikácie na rómsku kultúru, resp. kultúrnu identitu Rómov. Práca obsahuje okrem etnologických, kulturologických, etnografických či romologických poznatkov aj širšie koncipované psychologické, politické a celospoločenské východiská, ktoré súvisia so životom Rómov. Kultúra ako prejav skupinovej identity sa javí ako najdôležitejšia vrstva identity Rómov. Jej problém, zložitosť možno charakterizovať na základe jej subetnickej diferenciácie Rómov. To znamená, že ak budeme vychádzať z analýzy pojmu identita, ako schopnosti zachovania kontinuity v priestore, v čase a vo vzťahoch, potom je možné predpokladať, že všetky tieto faktory vzájomne pôsobia na utvárania skupinovej identity Rómov v priebehu ich života, teda v kultúrnych priestoroch.
