Conception of mothers on parental leave of good mother: Thematic analysis

Abstract:

Ústředním tématem práce je představa dobré matky z pohledu samotných matek. V případě tohoto výzkumu se jednalo o matky s jedním dítětem ve věku 2-3 roky, které jsou momentálně na rodičovské dovolené. Respondentky ve výchově preferovaly různou míru dávání hranic s cílem zajistit široké názorové spektrum vzorku. V teoretické části jsou zahrnuty dosavadní poznatky o představě dobré matky, které se však na tuto představu dívají většinou z vnější perspektivy. Tato studie je kvalitativního charakteru a explorativního typu. Před samotným výzkumem byl proveden předvýzkum s cílem zmapovat tuto oblast a zvolit kritérium pro výběr respondentek pro samotný výzkum. Výzkumný soubor tvoří devět matek. Jako metoda sběru dat byl zvolen polostrukturovaný rozhovor. Analýza proběhla pomocí tematické analýzy, na základě které bylo identifikováno osm témat, které představu dobré matky popisují. Pomocí této analýzy vznikla i čtyři témata faktorů, která tuto představu formují a čtyři témata významných pocitů, které v souvislosti s touto představou matky prožívají. V neposlední řadě práce uvádí dva pocity, které reflektují celkovou zkušenost mateřství. Interpretace, limity a další možnosti výzkumu jsou zmíněny v diskusi.

Abstract:

The main topic of this master thesis is the conception of good mother from mothers ‘perspective. In this study the mothers had one child 2-3 years old and were currently on parental leave. Participants preferred different amount of rules and boundaries in upbringing their children, in order to gain wide range of opinions from research sample. Theoretical part includes research findings about conception of good mother; however, these findings are mostly from perspective of other people. This study is qualitative with explorative focus. Before research itself, there was conducted a pre-research. The aim of this pre-research was to create a criterion based on which the participants for this research will be chosen. Research sample includes nine mothers. Semi-structured interview was chosen as the main research method. Data were analysed using thematic analysis, which carried out eight topics describing the conception of good mother. With the help of this analysis another four topics were created clarifying the factors that influence the conception and four topic describing feelings connected to the conception. Last but least the thesis describes two feelings clarifying the experience of motherhood. Interpretations, limits and further research suggestions are mentioned in discussion.
