Ethical Issues in Kazuo Ishiguro's Klara and the Sun and Never Let Me Go

Abstract:

Díla Kazua Ishigura Klára a Slunce a Neopouštěj mě, jsou příběhy, jejichž hlavní postavy jsou přivedeny na svět uměle a z toho důvodu jsou diskriminováni a vyloučeni ze společnosti. Jejich okolí se jich obává a nepovažuje je za rovnocenné bytosti, pouze je využívá k sobeckým potřebám lidstva. Tato práce analyzuje neetické a nemorální chování vůči těmto bytostem a prokazuje, že navzdory svému původu je jejich existence komplexní a zaslouží si lidský a etický přístup. Dále se práce věnuje analýze dalších etických problémů v dílech, které ovlivňují celkový vliv a chápání příběhu.

Abstract:

Kazuo Ishiguro’s novels Klara and the Sun and Never Let Me Go are centred around artificially created characters who are discriminated against by society and ostracized, as the public fears their existence and they solely use these beings for their selfish purposes. This thesis analyses the unethical and immoral behaviour these characters were subjected to and proves that despite their unnatural origin, their existence is more complex than simply their physical features and are therefore deserving of a more humane approach. Furthermore, it depicts other ethical issues raised in the novels that affect the overall impact and understanding of the narrative.
