EU and the presidency of the Czech Republic in the Council of the EU in 2009 and 2022

Abstract:

Ústředním tématem bakalářské práce je EU a předsednictví České republiky v Radě Evropské unie v letech 2009 a 2022. Práce začíná popisem vztahu mezi Českou republikou a Evropskou unií, který se vyvíjí již po mnoho desetiletí. Následně přináší informace o jedné z klíčových institucí Evropské unie, kterou je Rada EU. Nezbytnou součástí Rady EU je rotující předsednictví, zahrnující průběžná jednání vedená její předsednickou zemí po dobu jejího šestiměsíčního mandátu. Tato práce se primárně zaměřuje na dvě předsednická období České republiky, uskutečněná v první polovině roku 2009 a ve druhé polovině roku 2022. Každé z těchto období je v práci podrobně popsáno, zejména v oblasti příprav, programové iniciativy, konečných výsledků a celkového hodnocení. Práce je završena komparativní analýzou obou předsednictví České republiky, která nabízí bližší pohled na úspěchy, výzvy a jejich celkový dopad na Českou republiku a Evropskou unii.

Abstract:

The central topic of this bachelor's thesis is EU and the Presidency of the Czech Republic in the Council of the European Union during the years 2009 and 2022. The thesis begins with a description of the longstanding relationship between the Czech Republic and the European Union, which has evolved over many decades. Subsequently, it provides important information about one of the European Union's key institutions - the Council of the European Union. An indispensable part of the Council of Ministers is its rotating presidency, which involves continuous negotiations led by the presiding country for a six-month term. This thesis mainly focuses on the two presidency periods held by the Czech Republic, during the first half of 2009 and the second half of 2022. Each of these periods is described in detail, particularly in the areas of preparations, program initiatives, results, and overall evaluations. The thesis culminates in a comparative analysis of both Czech Republic presidency periods, offering insights into the successes, challenges, and overarching impact of these terms on the Czech Republic and the European Union as well.
