Anaerobic bacterial pyrite oxidation

Abstract:

This thesis deals with anaerobic pyrite oxidation to demonstrate a possible role of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans bacteria in the oxidation process. Introduction of the thesis was focused on pyrite oxidation, especially on anaerobic conditions and involvement of bacteria in the process. Experiments included bacteria under growing and non-growing conditions with an abiotic control. Based on the results, there is no clear bacterial contribution to the pyrite oxidation.

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá anaerobní oxidací pyritu a podílem bakterií Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans na oxidačním procese. Teoretická část práce je zaměřená na oxidaci pyritu s důrazem na anaerobní podmínky a předpokládaný podíl bakterií. Experimenty s bakteriemi byly provedené za růstových a nerůstových podmínek s abiotickou kontrolou. Na základě experimentálních výsledků je míra účasti bakterií v anaerobní oxidaci pyritu diskutabilní.
