Functioning and activities of cultural institutions established by Municipal National Committee in Brno - the case study of the year 1984

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá fungováním a činností kulturních institucí zřízených a financovaných odborem kultury Městského národního výboru Brno v roce 1984. Tato případová studie se snaží popsat způsoby, jakými odbor kultury podporoval městskou kulturu a jaké povinnosti měly dané kulturní instituce vůči svému zřizovateli v daném roce. Mezi tyto instituce patří příspěvkové organizace Park kultury a oddechu, Správa městských kin, Dům umění, Muzeum města Brna, Zoologická zahrada, Hvězdárna a planetárium a rozpočtové organizace Knihovna Jiřího Mahena a Městské kulturní středisko. Práce, vycházející primárně z rozsáhlého archivního bádání, si klade za cíl pokusit se postihnout prvky, které v roce 1984 ovlivňovaly fungování a činnost těchto institucí a formovaly tak oficiální kulturu města Brna.

Abstract:

This master thesis is dealing with functioning and activities of cultural institutions established and funded by the Department of Culture of Municipal National Committee in Brno in 1984. This case study aims to describe the ways in which the Department of Culture promoted urban culture and what responsibilities had given institutions to its founder in the given year. These institutions include subsidiary organizations The Park of Culture and Relaxation, Town Cinema Direction, The Brno House of Arts, the Brno City Museum, the Zoo Brno, the Brno Observatory and Planetarium and budget organizations Jiří Mahen Library, and the City Cultural Center S. K. Neumann. This work, based primarily on extensive archival research, aims to capture the elements that affected the functioning and activities of these institutions which formed the official line of culture in Brno in 1984.
