Rehabilitation of shape defects in the hoof capsule of barefoot and shod horses

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou bosé úpravy kopyt ve srovnání s běžnější úpravou pod podkovu. Toto téma bylo zvoleno s ohledem na stále rostoucí trend volby bosého trimu mezi majiteli koní, podpořeným nedávným úspěchem bosých koní na olympijských hrách v Tokiu. Cílem literárního přehledu je poskytnout komplexní informace o problematice bosé úpravy a úpravy kováním, se zaměřením na anatomii kopytního pouzdra a standardní postupy úpravy u obou metod. Kazuistiky poté představují dva konkrétní případy, oba trpící mediolaterální nerovnováhou kopytní kosti v důsledku nevyváženosti kopytního pouzdra, kdy jeden případ byl rehabilitován metodou mustang trim, zatímco u druhého byla zvolena varianta okování. Práce si klade za cíl poskytnout lepší náhled do problematiky a nabídnout praktické informace pro majitele koní, kteří o bosém trimu uvažují jako o alternativě k tradičnímu kování.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of barefoot hoof trimming compared to the more common shoeing. This topic was chosen in light of the growing trend of choosing barefoot trimming among horse owners, supported by the recent success of barefoot horses at the Tokyo Olympics. The aim of the literature review is to provide comprehensive information on the issue of barefoot trimming and shoeing, focusing on the anatomy of the hoof capsule and standard trimming practices of both methods. Case studies then present two specific cases, both suffering from mediolateral imbalance of the hoof bone due to an unbalanced hoof capsule, with one case being rehabilitated using the mustang trim method, while the other opted for shoeing. This thesis aims to provide a better insight into the issue and offer practical information for horse owners considering barefoot trimming as an alternative to traditional shoeing.
